Shining Mountain Waldorf School

This is a sign we built for Shining Mountain Waldorf School in Boulder. We combined the aged barn wood with machined aluminum letters mounted off of the surface. Since the wood has some cupping and the boards are somewhat different thicknesses, we needed to be sure the letters remained on the same plane. We accomplished this by mounting the reclaimed wood on a backer and using our CNC router to place the bottom of the the holes at the same depth. The result was that when we inserted the letter studs into the holes, they remained flush with each other on the surface.
